"The Pennsylvania Railroad hauls more freight and carries more passengers than any other railroad in the world . . . It operates more miles of track than any other American railroad, and moves the heaviest steam-hauled mainline traffic over the Alleghenies between Altoona and Pittsburgh." (Page 11)

Description:  Here is the back cover of the April 1946 issue of "Trains" magazine. These illustrations by Mr. Frank Reilly are the same as those used on the Pennsylvania Railroad Company's 99th Annual Report for the year ending 31 December 1945. Depicted at the top (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5900, #5500, #6195, and #4904. #5900 is an EP-20 built by GM-EMD in September of 1945 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. #5500 is a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" built in Juniata during November of 1945 and retired in December of 1953. #6195 is a Q-2 (4-4-6-4) built in Juniata during June of 1945 and retired in January of 1956. #4904 is a GG-1 built in Juniata during May of 1940. Depicted at the bottom (L to R) are three vintage steam locomotives: 1831, 1864, and 1902. The one representing 1831 is the Camden & Amboy's "John Bull."
