MP Depot Fredericktown MO |
Description: |
The nicely maintained MP depot at Fredericktown MO; which was located at MP104.4 on the Belmont branch. The size of the station belies the point that passenger service was never really relevent here; even by WWII there was only a daily mixed on the line between Bismarck and Charleston; by 1955 the route was listed as 'freight only'. As of 1973 the town was located on the Charleston Subdivision of the Arkansas Division; the tracks were abandoned in 1974. |

The tiny, Macon-County town of Ethel ranks up there as one of the finest train watching places in Missouri; it's just a little bit more out of the way than most other locations. A UP train using rights on the BNSF storms through Ethel MO on a Friday afternoon. Three units are followed by a phalanx of stacks with a mid-train DPU as well. |

Paired GP10s on the MRIX |
Description: |
Motive Rail Inc must have one of the largest (if not the largest) group of operating Paducah Geeps left in the country with at least 12 in possession along with about five GP7/9s as well. "Home" is at SEMO Port along with several outlying locations in the midwest. GP10s 8317 and 8328 are shown here tied down near the BNSF interchange in Cape. Although MRIX paints its units in red and blue colors, 8317 seems to be the oddball of the litter, having a blue long hood and red cab. The trailing unit, 8329, is in what could be called the closest thing to a standard scheme with blue cab, short hood, frame and bottom part of the long hood.. |

Holcim Switcher Awaiting its Fate |
Description: |
The Holcim Company closed its Clarksville MO plant (at a siding called Dundee for years by the railroad, based on the original cement company's name-even if the town with that place name is south of the Missouri River in Franklin County). The plant had at least three switchers; an SW1, GNAX1, is now in Colorado and a centercab GE seems to be missing. The newer EMD switcher still sits in the plant awaiting its fate with no number or reporting marks visible. It's supposed to be the former Waterloo RR no2, an SW900 buillt in 1957 that reportedly arrived here in 1983. It's received a new prime mover along the way- presumably a Cummins of some variety. |

Hot Day in Joplin |
Description: |
Two units are performing MOW work on the MNA in Joplin MO on a hot July day. They're helping dump ballast on what's left of the former Frisco Webb City line near Valley Street. |

Units in the Yard |
Description: |
MNA and BNSF units sit in the former Frisco yard in southwest Joplin MO on a hot July day in 2013. For what it's worth, I shot my first picture in Missouri in 1974 at this same location. (and the white Corvette is a nice touch as well!) |

Advice for Swingers |
Description: |
The sign says "Stop when swinging" which probably confuses more than a few drivers as they approach what is supposed to be the last working wig-wag signal in the state of Missouri. |

Artful Dodger |
Description: |
The Joplin Dodger runs towards 15th St in Joplin as it heads for work at the M&NA interchange downtown. It'll keep the mainline clobbered for another 40 minutes before returning home to Pittsburg while two other trains wait for its to finish its work. KCS 1914 and 2964 are followed by MNA 4014, which will be dropped at the interchange. |
