Album Info:Caltrain operates one of the busiest commuter routes on the west coast. With up to a dozen trains an hour, there is lots of action. Added to the mix are trains from Amtrak, Altamont Corridor Express, and Union Pacific. This album includes photos throughout the second half of 2022.

Description:  Capitol Corridor 2010 leads a southbound train into San Jose. The F59PHI was built in 2001 by EMD, and is one of 15 such units used on Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin services. This unit is in charge of train #727, and will be lined into track 2 for its San Jose station stop.

Description:  Two trains depart Diridon under a tangle of Caltrain catenary wires. Caltrain 917 is pushing a deadhead move north to the Caltrain yard at Lenzen Avenue, while CDTX 2003 is pushing northbound Capitol Corridor train #728 for Sacramento. The green signal in the bottom left is for another northbound Caltrain, train #229.

Title:  Boise F40 Northbound
Description:  Caltrain 922 shoves north with another weekend commute for San Fran. 922 is one of three Boise F40s Caltrain owns, having been built in 1998. These 3200-horsepower units are essentially the same as a standard EMD F40PH, but have some upgraded components, including a separate HEP generator for quieter station stops. 922 was the newest engine in the Caltrain fleet until the arrival of MPI MP36s in 2003.

Description:  Making about 65 miles per hour, P42DC 38 leads the Coast Starlight south. San Jose Diridon lies about 3.5 miles behind, and ahead is the flat expanse of the southern Santa Clara Valley. The engineer will have the opportunity to open up the throttle for several miles before curves south of Gilroy will force them to slow again.

Description:  Amtrak 157 is the second unit on the southbound Coast Starlight passing through south San Jose in mid-October. The engine wears a commemorative paint scheme dedicated to the Heartland Flyer train between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth. This train carries passengers for football games between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas, and several units were painted in this commemorative scheme to honor the rivalry.
