Nevens Yard |
Description: |
Looks like a "ghost yard". This scene depicts the decadence of the Boston line in Framingham in 1977. Looking west from Fountain street bridge (MP 21.84). Update: I read a newsletter from Destination: Freedom (Vol. 5 No. 31 - August 2, 2004 - http://www.nationalcorridors.org/df/df08022004.shtml2003) that mentions a project that will add two more main lines from Framingham to Worcester due to the growing traffic. Anyone follow-up on this? |

Framingham North Yard - Freight House |
Description: |
Not much activity today. A group of cabooses (what models ?) at the Freight House slumber on this late afternoon summer day of 1977. The switcher seems to be a SW1 ? I don't remember what that tower is in the background (to the left of the freight house, behind the cabooses). Maybe related to a lumber yard? |

Main lines and siding of the Boston and Albany |
Description: |
Railroad scene on a summer day in 1977. Looking west at MP 21.75 on the Boston line in Framingham. To the right are Conrail's two main lines (tracks 1 & 2) and to the far right is the old industry siding hidden by the high grass. Where I'm standing there were two more tracks (3 & 4) before the construction of the Massachusetts Turnpike. At that time Boston and Albany had the right-of-way until incorporated by the New York Central System which later was consolidated under Penn Central. To the far left is Rt. 135. In the background to the right, behind the tree line, is Dennison factory. |
