Viewing Album:  NKP 765 up the Lehigh Valley, with 425 thrown in as a bonus

Album Info:I chased the NKP 765 / Norfolk & Western 21st Century steam special that ran from Allentown, PA up to Pittston Junction and back. For the Saturday morning portion of the chase I had my grandson along. Saturday afternoon and Sunday the chase was solo because there were some walk-in photo locations I wanted that wouldn’t be suitable for a 4-year old to hike. A nice bonus was RBMN 425 at the head of the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway’s train. Hundreds of fellow foamers added to the already-big crowds of bicyclists and rafters in Lehigh Gorge State park, and the automobile traffic through Jim Thorpe was close to gridlock for much of the weekend. I used a backroads “Jim Thorpe bypass“ to avoid the traffic congestion through downtown.

Description:  On the other shore, part way up the slope of Blue Mountain you can see the old bridge abutment and first pier of the old Lehigh and New England Railroad's high bridge over the Lehigh River. There are some fellow railroad photographers who got the Lehigh Gap scene from that perch.
