Description: |
Fine example of a 2-8-2 Mikado built by the PRR Juniata Shops. This one, #860, was built in July of 1915 with serial #2954 and a class L1 member. Of the 574 Mikados that the Pennsy once had on its roster, only one survives today. It's #520 at the RR Museum of Pennsylvania. Specs - serial #2954, L1 class, 62" drivers, 205 spi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylindeers, engine weight of 315,000 lb, tractive effort of 61,465 lb. This loco was scrapped in February of 1955. J.R. The Class L1 "Mikados" were built in the Juniata Shops in Altoona, PA and by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and the Lima Locomotive Works. The Juniata shops built 344, Baldwin built 205 and Lima built 25. Only PRR #520 survives at the RR Museum of Pennsylvania.
