Description:  Wallin. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Richard R. Wallin that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1953. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5865 and two more units whose numbers are not recorded. All are EP-20's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5865 was constructed during February of 1948. This A-B-A set is pulling a mail and express train down the Allegheny Mountains and around the Curve en route to Altoona and points East.

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5495, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during February of 1928 and retired in April of 1956 after 28 years of faithful service. In this context, it's scooping water while pulling a 12-car passenger train. The exact location is not recorded.

Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9488 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are FF-20's built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #9488 was constructed in November of 1948 and retired in December of 1963 after just 15 years of service. When there's icicles on the grilles, it's really cold!

Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9808, two more "EF" Class units, as well as three "AF" Class units. #9808 is an EF-15A built by GM-EMD in April of 1951 and rated at 1,500 HP. All four engines in this A-B-B-A lash-up were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #2004 is a BF-16 built in July of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. The exact date and the location are not recorded.
