Title:
CRIP 4-8-2 #4057 - Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific
Description:
While stopped at the Englewood station, the engineer keeps a watchful eye for a signal from the conductor to move. This good looking Alco-Schenectady 4-8-2 Mountain type locomotive was delivered to Rock Island in October of 1929. Later in 1939-40, the class was modernized with Timken roller bearings, disk-type drivers and Timken lightweight side and main rods and then reclassified as M-50a. The loco served for nearly 34 years before being retired and sold for scrap in February of 1953 as the diesel were jumping on the Rock Island roster. Specs - M-50, 74" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 28x28" cylinder, engine weight 375,350 lb, tractive effort of 50,430 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.
