NP 1 "Minnetonka" |
Description: |
I love this engine. It is nice how it shares the name of a Minnesota lake--one which, incidentally, the Northern Pacific did not serve, but its sister road Great Northern did. Northern Pacific successor BNSF still technically owns this engine, but its management nixed an idea to move it to BNSF headquarters at Fort Worth, Texas, a decade ago. The Northern Pacific was born in Duluth, which makes the "Minnetonka"'s longtime home appropriate. |

NP 0-4-0T #1, "Minnetonka" - Northern Pacific |
Description: |
The 1870 0-4-0T switcher started out hauling track building supplies for the Northern Pacific as the laid rails westward. Later it served the logging industry through the northwest US. After traveling to various railroad events around the nation, the new owner Burlington Northern finally donated it to the Lake Superior RR Museum where it rests today.. |
