Amtrak #9451 SILVER LODGE
Title:  Amtrak #9451 SILVER LODGE
Description:  Amtrak #9451 SILVER LODGE just after sale to the Alaska RR. Built by Budd in 1948 in Lot #9656-019 as CB&Q #4717 SILVER LODGE, a 24 seat dome-46 seat leg rest chair (reserved for women and children only) for the CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR. The women and children dome chairs were the first of the three dome chairs in each CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR trainset, and were designated as the CZ-20 cars. The SILVER LODGE became BN #4681, and was sold to Amtrak in 1971 as #9451. It was retired in February 1984 and sold to the Alaska RR, where it was initially planned to become #7005, but instead became #7032. It was resold in October 1986 to Denver Railcar as DRCX #7032, and was used on several operations, including the Roaring Fork RR, the Texas Southern/TEXAS LIMITED, Mexican American Railways (charters based in Nogales), and the ACADIAN. It was sold at the May 2004 DRCX bankruptcy auction to the Feather River Rail Society, d.b.a. the Western Pacific RR Museum in Portola, CA, as FRRX #4717. Scanned with an Epson V550 from an original Kodachrome 35mm slide.
