According to the book, CB&Q Color Guide To Freight And Passenger Equipment, by Michael J. Spoor, beginning in 1963 the CB&Q began acquiring 100-ton quad hoppers from Bethlehem Steel Corporation, with the roster eventually totaling 1,570 cars. The first order was for 200 cars which were numbered 160000-160199 and were designated Class HT-11.
