Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad U25B 103 westbound on the CGI at Naperville, Illinois on February 27, 1965, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The CGI was an expedited freight train between Cicero, Illinois and Grand Island, Nebraska, and featured a pool of locomotives from the CB&Q and UP. It started in the late GP9 era (about 1960) and lasted (I believe) to the BN merger. Usually the newest locomotives were used, but I got a shot of a similar lashup headed by a Q F2. This locomotive was built in September 1964 (c/n 35197), became BN 5427, and was retired in July 1981. |
