In Memory of Webster Wagner, 1817-1882         
On the night of January 13th, 1882 Webster Wagner, builder of the Hudson River Railroad's first four sleeping cars, founder of the Wagner Palace Car Company, and five-time New York State Senator, was burned to death aboard the car 'Idlewild' in a catastrophic crash at the site pictured here, a place called Spuyten Duyvil at the northern tip of Manhattan in New York City.
