| Bieber Ca. was always a curiosity to me. Lot's of folks probably didn't realize that the old GN ran into California to Bieber. Bieber, the end of the line and connection to the WP, the highly touted "Inside Gateway". Has to be interesting things to look at in Bieber. So on a long driving trip to California in 1979 I make Bieber a priority stop. When I come rolling in the community of Bieber, I couldn't find any railroad tracks anywhere. Bieber only has a couple 100 people in it. Where are the tracks? I travel further down the highway a couple miles to a town called "Nubieber". Bingo! the tracks are in Nubieber. Why they just didn't call it Nubieber in the first place I don't know. Anyway...not much to see at Nubieber. The BN comes from the north on a 10-15 mile straight track, there is the BN depot and a couple of short yard tracks, and the line goes straight for another 10 miles into WP territory. I could see what looked like a couple track yard the WP had a mile or two to the south and no depot that I could make out. So that's about it. |
