Here's a friendly wave from Train #48, the Black Hawk, which also had parts of Northern Pacific's Train #2, The Mainstreeter, and Great Northern's Train #28, The Western Star. The Western Star arrived at Minneapolis early enough to allow passengers to transfer to CB&Q's Train #24, the Afternoon Zephyr, which departed Minneapolis at 2:50 PM CST, for a quicker arrival in Chicago at 9:55 PM CST, but there was not enough time to allow transfer of the rolling stock, which arrived on this train the next morning at 6:40 AM CST. The Mainstreeter's passengers were not as fortunate, and arrived on this train. This combined operation began in 1955 and ended in 1970. |
