PRR "World Famous Horseshoe Curve," Page 21, 1973         
Here is page 21 of a 64-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "World Famous Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, Pennsylvania Railroad." It was first issued in September of 1973. Top Photo, Partial Caption: "In 1940, train No. 74 was shown on the timetable as the eastbound Duquesne from Pittsburgh to New York. H.W. Pontin took this picture, which shows her gliding around the Curve headed by engines K4 No. 3733 and K4 No. 1339." PRR engines #3733 and #1339 are both K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics" built in Juniata. #3733 was built in February of 1920 and retired in April of 1956, while #1339 was built in May of 1918 and retired in February of 1956. Both photos taken by H.W. Pontin in July of 1940.
