Built by the Juniata shops in 1910, this is one of those cross-over locoomotives that had steam engine characteristics but ran on DC. These were semi-permanently coupled pairs. The unknown photographer made notes about it in terms of a steam locomotive - "4-4-4-4 type, class DD-1, 72" drivers, 313,000 lb weight, exerts 66,000 lbs tractive effort." Caught here in Morris Park Engine Yard, outside Long Island. The sepia photo lost details when flipped to b&w so left it untouched. |
