Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original telephoto that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8668, #8663, #2200, #2201, #2203, and #2202. #8668 and #8663 are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8668 was built in February of 1958 while #8663 was built in January of 1958. #2200, #2201, #2203, and #2202 are EF-22's built by GM-EMD in February of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. They're rounding the Curve with an iron ore train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and the steel mills of Pittsburgh. Note all of the PRR G-39 "Ore Jennies"! (#31 of 39) |
