Horseshoe Curve-1948. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in the Summer of 1948. Shown here are three unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotives pulling a 28-car westbound mail/express train. The first is an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain," next is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado," and then there is a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex." After the train passes through the tunnels at Gallitzin, the first two locomotives will uncouple and head back to Altoona for yet another helper run up "The Mountain." This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Pennsy Steam Locomotives" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (109-11).

Robert Anderson General A T-1 away from the flat lands. Was this unusual or returning from Altoona shop? Agree with above. Great album. 10/6/2018 3:35:47 AM
