CRIP E8A #644 - Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific
Nice action shot of the EMD E8A near Joliet, IL. Built by EMD in June of 1951, the unit was heading up the "Rocky Mountain Rocket" at this point in its life. An unknown photographer caught the roadside action.

Cool shot. The second unit is one of the two E6AB's, a booster unit with one engine and a cab/baggage compartment. It would take the Colorado Springs section, with the rest of the train going to Denver. The split was done at Limon, where the Rock crossed the UP. The Denver section moved onto the UP there for the last 75 miles of the trip. Eastbound, the process was reversed, with the train coming into Limon as two trains, being combined there. I think there was a photo essay on this in a recent issue of Classic Trains.
