You never knew what would show up for power on 13T; it could be just about anything, from top of the line new power, to whatever NS had in Buffalo that would run, and off line power was not uncommon. Sometimes the home road diesels were pretty interesting, such as on todays effort, an ex CR GP 15-1 leading an NS only B32-8 and an ex NW GP 38AC. All of these units were getting to be unusual by this time. The real surprise is a GP 15 on a road train. Conrail acquired 100 of these engines from EMD in 1979; they were used systemwide on locals and yard jobs, rarely going on the road on symbol freights. |
