Colebrookdale Railroad 7236 stands ready for departure at Boyertown station. The first generation EMD was constructed in 1959 as part of the Pennsylvania Railroad's massive GP9 fleet that once exceeded two hundred units. Numbered 7236, it served the PRR in freight operations, working through Penn Central and into Conrail. During the Conrail era this unit was rebuilt into a GP10, one of many so refurbished in this manner in an effort to extend their service lives. After retirement from Big Blue, the Pennsy veteran bounced around to several different owners before coming to Boyertown at the start of 2016. It has since become the primary locomotive for Colebrookdale operations, treating visitors to a view of this area of Berks County. |
