Riding in the Cab of the Amtrak Downeaster Train #685  Contributor's Pick!
Kevin and I got to ride in the cab, thanks to Conductor Marilyn Hunkins and Engineer Dewey, the same engineer that let us on the NPCU back on July 1st. Kevin held down the jump seat and I sat in the Assistant Engineer's seat for about 30 minutes from Saco to Portland. This was taken at 76 mph just south of Old Orchard Beach with a 79 mph speed limit at 8:28 P.M., 12 miles and 17 minutes from Portland. The train and crew was featured in an issue of Downeast The Magazine of Maine in June 2002. Yes, we did get to blow the horn.
