PRR 8114, BS-16M, 1965
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by K.L. Douglas that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 4 April 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8114 and another unit whose number is not recorded. #8114 is a BS-16M switcher built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton as Pittsburgh & West Virginia Railroad number "40" in May of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, purchased by the PRR in 1963 and renumbered "8114," then retired in September of 1967 after just 16 years of combined service. In this context, it's parked near the 4th Street Footbridge and SOUTH Tower. ("Tchowee"; #13 of 39)
