Between 3 February 1998 and 2 May 2000, the United States Postal Service issued 10 sheets of 15 stamps each, with each sheet depicting significant events for one decade of the 20th century. Then, between 11 March 1999 and 19 November 2000, USPS sponsored the CELEBRATE THE CENTURY EXPRESS which toured the country publicizing the stamps and postal history. This train consisted of Amtrak P42 number 100, baggage car 1252, remodeled Amfleet coach 21044, privately-owned former Southern Railway RPO car 36, and a private car which changed as the tour progressed. Here was engine 100 during the train’s visit to New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. After the tour ended, the 100 returned to NOUPT to be repainted back into the Amtrak scheme. |
