DIR 2-6-0 #3 - "The 3 Spot"
Displayed in a place of honor next to the historic Duluth and Iron Range depot is the first steam engine used to move taconite iron ore from the mines to the newly built wooden ore docks for loading onto ships. Originally builty by Baldwin in 1883 for the Tehuantepec Interoceanic Rwy of Mexico who never took delivery, the newly formed Duluth and Iron Range grabbed it up. It cost $9,750 at the time and when it arrived was given the nickname "3 Spot".
