| Like a sleeping giant, Denver & Rio Grande Western 2-8-8-2 #3411 was photographed sitting quietly in the Salida, CO, yard. Built by ALCo-Schenectady in December of 1912 as DRG #1071, it was renumbered DRGW #3411 after the re-organization of DRGW. . It lasted in service until it met the scrapper's torch in 1946. Original specs - 57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x40" high pressure cylinders, 32x57" low pressure cylinders, engine wt of 458,000 lb, and impressive tractive effort of 95,000 lb.
