Two signal masts sit dormant just off of Jackson Street in north San Jose. Jackson is one of the main thoroughfares through Japantown. The tracks pictured are the Union Pacific Warm Springs Subdivision, the secondary route betwen San Jose and Fremont. This was originally part of the Southern Pacific Warm Springs line, and ran through the middle of downtown San Jose to the south. The tracks were realigned in the 1930s, but the north end of the old line remained as the Warm Springs Sub. Todays line is only used by the occasional local freight from Milpitas, and as part of the lines downgrading, these signals have been deactivated. |
