UP 1785
Title:  UP 1785
Description:  UP 1785 GP38AC shows off non-standard issue "7" and "5" after a recent renumbering. Delivered to Illinois Central as IC 9502 GP38AC in February 1970 and becoming ICG 9502 after the IC-Gulf, Mobile, and Ohio merger in 1972 then returned to lessor Helm in 1985 upon lease expiration. Missouri Kansas Texas leased this unit becoming MKT 327 working in patched ICG orange, white, and rust until February 6, 1991 when it became UP 1984 receiving a coat of Union Pacific paint. Once the original MKT lease expired Union Pacific purchased this unit from Helm on October 23, 1996 then renumbered it to 1785 on August 27, 1997 with two small patches (as seen in the photo). A third renumbering was planned for this unit and was to become UP 285 but instead retired on May 25, 2001. Albany and Eastern purchased the unit and today works as AERC 2001 GP38AC in the Pacific Northwest.
