Album Info:This is a fairly nice group of b&w photos of Chicago, Rock Isalnd & Pacific 4-8-4 Northern type steam locomotives. Most appear to be older reprints whith no information on the back unfortunately. Approximate dates and locations were used.

Description:  Built by Alco-Schenectady in April of 1930 as CRIP 4-8-4 #5036, the loco was an essential component in the Rock Island roster, serving in both freight and passenger service. It was eventually retired and sold for scrap in August of 1952. Specs - 69" drivers, impressive 250 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 434,000 lb and tractive effort of 66,620 lb. This is a Ralph Graves photo.

Description:  CRIP 4-8-4 #5007 was built by Alco-Schenectady in August of 1929. The loco served in both freight and passenger service, especially after a rebuld in the late 1930's gave it 74" drivers. It lasted in service until being sold for scrap in December of 1952 after nearly 23 years of service. Specs - 69" drivers, impressive 250 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 434,000 lb and tractive effort of 66,620 lb. Description:  This beautiful and powerful locomotive was the first of 65 4-8-4 Northerns built by Alco-Schenectady for the Rock Island. Initially built in February of 1929 as CRIP #5000 with 67" drivers, it was rebuilt in the late 1930's and given 74" drivers for use with passenger trains. The loco was sold for scrap in June of 1951.
