Built by the PRR Altoona Shops in 1939 as a replica of the original John Bull locomotive built in 1831, this working model is housed at the RR Museum of Pennsylvania in servicable condition although not fired up in years (at least in 2007). The original John Bull is in the Smithsonian Museum.

PRR DD1 #17 (ex-#70) - Pennsylvania RR
Description:
This 1911 Altoona shops built electric used 3rd rail DC and were built in semi-permanent married pairs to serve the New York area electrification. The wheel configuration was 4-4-0+0-4-4 or later labeled 2-B+B-2. Only one pair survived and is now located at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. The day in April, 1936 is approximate and the location was listed as Meadows, NJ yard.

PRR DD1 #28 - Pennsylvania RR
Description:
Built by the Juniata shops in 1910, this is one of those cross-over locoomotives that had steam engine characteristics but ran on DC. These were semi-permanently coupled pairs. The unknown photographer made notes about it in terms of a steam locomotive - "4-4-4-4 type, class DD-1, 72" drivers, 313,000 lb weight, exerts 66,000 lbs tractive effort." Caught here in Morris Park Engine Yard, outside Long Island. The sepia photo lost details when flipped to b&w so left it untouched.

PRR DD1 #30
Description:
Built by the Altonna shops circa 1911, the DD1 units were semi-permanently coupled pairs of third rail direct current electric locomotives. Each half-locomotive contained one large electric motor mounted in the body and driving via a jackshaft and side rods. Those electric motors gave the DD1 a potential top speed of 85 mph. Thanks to Thomas Ayers (see comment below), the locaiton has been identified as PRR's Sunnyside yards in Long Island City, NY/ Thanks Thomas for your help!

New Portage. Here is an original photo by Bruce D. Fales. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3700, an HC-1S (2-8-8-0) "Articulated" built in Juniata during June of 1919 and retired in August of 1929 after just a decade of service. In this context, the Flagman may have just uncoupled #3700 from the train after a successful "pusher" run up the New Portage Branch line. Note the antique truck on the N-5 cabin car. Partial Caption: "Build at the Altoona Works in 1919, the Class HC-1s (2-8-8-0) simple mallet locomotive stands beside a train of West Jersey & Seashore wooden MU coaches on exhibition at Tennessee Ave., Atlantic City, 1924." Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3700, the HC-1S (2-8-8-0) built in Juniata during June of 1919 and retired in August of 1929 after just a decade of revenue service. The name of the Hostler pictured here is not recorded.
