Coaling Tipple. Here is an original telephoto view that I took from atop the Pennsylvania Railroad's coaling tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 September 1965. Here is a view facing railroad west. At the left are the eastbound Receiving and Classification Yards. In the center is the East Altoona Roundhouse, now just half of its original 50-stall size. Beyond it are the two bridges in Juniata. The large structure at the far right is the Erecting & Machine Shop. Also note the locomotive in the center heading toward the tipple. |
